physioō φυσιόω physioō

To INFLATE, puff up, swell — from physa, a bellows. Paul's private word for the Corinthians: six of its seven New Testament occurrences are in this one letter (4:6, 4:18, 4:19, 5:2, 8:1, 13:4). By the time it lands in the love chapter it is an old joke with an edge: love does not do the thing you keep doing. The KJV's 'puffed up' is exact. → first discussed at 1 Corinthians 13:4
