To GARRISON, to mount a guard over — a MILITARY word; a phrouros is a sentry. Philippians 4:7 says the peace of God will phroureo your hearts and thoughts, and the register matters: Philippi was a Roman colonia settled with discharged soldiers, so Paul is telling a town full of veterans that the peace of God will stand sentry duty.
