patah פָּתָה patah

To persuade — entice — seduce — deceive: the whole scandalous range of Jeremiah 20:7, 'You enticed me, Jehovah, and I was enticed.' The same verb sends the lying spirit to 'entice' Ahab (1 Kings 22) and names the seducer of Exodus 22:16. KJV/NIV read 'deceived'; NWT 'fooled'; this translation 'enticed,' with the darker readings carried in the note. His enemies use it too (20:10): 'perhaps he will be enticed.' → first discussed at Jer 20:7
