REBIRTH, of everything — palin ('again') + genesis ('origin, birth'). Not an individual's conversion but the remaking of the whole order of things: 'in the palingenesia, when the Son of Man sits on his throne of glory' (Matthew 19:28). It occurs only twice in the New Testament — here and Titus 3:5, of the washing of rebirth — and the Stoics used it of the periodic reconstitution of the cosmos after its dissolution. ⚠ The shelf scatters: KJV/ASV 'in the regeneration' (a word modern English has almost entirely handed over to the individual), NIV 'at the renewal of all things,' NWT 'in the re-creation.'
