'The FEAR of Isaac' — a rare divine title, found only in this chapter (31:42, 53): the God of Isaac named by the awe he inspires, 'the Awe-inspiring One whom Isaac reveres,' set beside 'the God of Abraham.' Pachad is dread, trembling reverence; some render it 'the Kinsman/Refuge of Isaac,' but the plain sense is the fear-of-God as a name for God himself.
