A DELIVERER, rescuer, saviour — the active participle of yasha, 'to save,' the same root behind the names Joshua (Yehoshua) and Jesus (Yeshua) and the word Hosanna ('save now'). ⚠ It is the RESCUER-word of the book of Judges, where God raises up a moshia to deliver Israel from an oppressor (Judges 3:9, 15) — a temporary, Spirit-seized champion, not a king.
