monogenes μονογενής monogenēs

'One of a kind, an only child' (mono-, 'only,' + genos, 'kind/kin') — NOT 'only-begotten,' which came through the Latin unigenitus and reads a later doctrine into the word. Rendered here 'the only Son.' → first discussed at John 1:14
