A PLACE TO STAY — the noun from menō, to remain. ⚠ It occurs TWICE in the whole New Testament and both times in one chapter: John 14:2 and 14:23. The King James turned the first into 'many mansions', following the Vulgate's mansiones — and in Latin a mansio is a stopping-place on a journey, the overnight halt, not a great house. The 1599 Geneva Bible had it right twelve years earlier: 'many dwelling places'. And the second occurrence settles it, because there monē is what the Father and the Son make WITH a person, and no version calls that a mansion. ⚠ Spanish never had the problem: RV prints moradas at v2 and morada at v23, one word in both places, exactly as the Greek does. → first discussed at John 14:2
