A SNARE — specifically the trigger-stick or bait-piece of a bird trap, the small thing that springs the whole mechanism. Pharaoh's own officials use it of Moses: 'How long shall this man be a MOKESH to us?' (Exodus 10:7). The Bible turns the word on Israel more often than on its enemies: the nations left in the land will be a snare (Judges 2:3), their gods a snare (Exodus 23:33; Deuteronomy 7:16), and Gideon's ephod became 'a SNARE to Gideon and to his house' (Judges 8:27).
