A gathering (of water) — the word behind the seas' naming, and later Judaism's ritual bath. ⚠ The bridge between those two is one verse in the food laws: Leviticus 11:36 (already on these pages) exempts a spring or a cistern, a miqveh mayim, from a whole chapter of contamination — the one thing a carcass cannot defile.
