miqreh מִקְרֶה miqreh

What HAPPENS to someone — an occurrence, a lot, a fate, from qarah, to befall. It carries no implication of design, which is why Ecclesiastes reaches for it: 3:19 says the miqreh of man and the miqreh of the beast is ONE miqreh. 1 Samuel 6:9 uses it of pure chance ('it was not his hand that struck us; it was a miqreh'), and Ruth 2:3 of a coincidence that turns out not to be one. → first discussed at Ecclesiastes 3:19
