PANIC, confusion, tumult — the noise of a crowd that has lost its order. ⭐ In this book it is first what God does to Israel’s enemies: Deuteronomy 7:23 (already on these pages) has him throw the Canaanites into a great panic, until they are destroyed. At 28:20 he sends the same panic into Israel’s own work. It is what the captured ark does to the Philistine cities at 1 Samuel 5:9, a very great panic, and what Saul finds in the Philistine camp at 14:20, every man’s sword against his fellow (neither yet on these pages).
