Witness — Jesus 'the faithful witness' (Revelation 1:5). In Revelation the word begins its migration toward English 'martyr': the witness whose testimony costs blood. ⚠ That migration completes on the page: the plural martysin names the TWO WITNESSES of chapter 11 (11:3), and their own testimony costs exactly what the word was already becoming — 'when they finish their testimony, the beast... will kill them' (11:7).
