A DISEASE, a sickness — from davah, to be ill or faint. ⭐ The noun stands in two verses of the Hebrew Bible, and they are one promise and its cancellation: Deuteronomy 7:15 (already on these pages), all the evil diseases of Egypt that you knew, he will not put on you — but he will put them on all who hate you, and 28:60, he will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt that you were in dread of. Behind both stands Marah, Exodus 15:26 (already on these pages), I will not put on you any of the diseases that I put on the Egyptians, with a different noun and the same sentence. (A homonym, the garments Hanun cuts short at 2 Samuel 10:4, shares the letters, which is why the count is read and not matched.)
