FINE ROBES — a rare word, built on a root meaning 'to strip off' or 'to change,' so literally something closer to 'a change of garments' than 'clothing' in general. It occurs only twice in the whole Hebrew Bible: here, replacing the filthy garments stripped from the high priest Joshua, and in Isaiah 3:22 (not yet on these pages), in a list of fine women's finery about to be stripped away in judgment — the same rare word doing opposite work in the two passages, clothing given in one and clothing threatened in the other. → first discussed at Zechariah 3:4
