A PARAPET — the low wall a builder must run around a flat roof, and a word that stands in one verse of the Hebrew Bible, Deuteronomy 22:8. ⚠ Nothing else in the Bible describes it, so every rendering is reconstructed from the situation rather than from the language: a 'battlement' (KJV, ASV, Geneva, Douay), a 'parapet' (NWT 1984, NIV, TNM), «pretil» (RV 1909, RV60), «baranda» (NVI) and a 'guardrail' (TLB). ⭐ The law is remarkable for what it does not require: no crime, no negligence and no injury has occurred. A man has built a house, and the blood is said to attach to the HOUSE rather than to anyone's conduct — so the remedy is a wall put up before anybody is hurt.
