A LOG — the smallest liquid measure named in the Hebrew Bible, roughly the volume of six eggs by later rabbinic reckoning (about a third of a litre). The word occurs five times, all of them in this one chapter, all of them measuring the same thing: the log of oil in the healed person’s eighth-day offering. Every other Levitical liquid measure (the hin, the bath) belongs to the ordinary sacrificial economy; this one belongs to nothing but this rite, which is itself the kind of detail a genuinely ancient, specific ritual memory carries and a later invention would have no reason to include. → first discussed at Lev 14:10
