TO BORROW — and, in its causative, TO LEND: one verb for both sides of the loan. ⭐ Deuteronomy 28:12 promises you will lend to many nations, and you yourself will not borrow, and 28:44 hands both halves to the stranger — he will lend to you, and you will not lend to him. ⚠ Deuteronomy 15:6 (already on these pages) said the same sentence with a different verb, avat, to give or take a pledge; the English of the two verses is nearly identical and the Hebrew is not.
