FAILING, wasting away — a noun from kalah, to be finished. ⭐ Read across the archived text, the noun stands in two verses of the Hebrew Bible: Deuteronomy 28:65, a trembling heart, failing eyes and a languishing soul, and Isaiah 10:22 (not yet on these pages), a destruction decreed. Its other three occurrences are a man: Chilion, Naomi’s second son, who goes down to Moab with her and dies there (Ruth 1:2, 5, already on these pages) — a name that means what Deuteronomy says exile will do to the eyes. ⚠ The verse’s three nouns are Leviticus 26:16’s (already on these pages) turned from verbs, that consume the eyes and cause the soul to languish; the last, da’avon, stands in one verse of the Hebrew Bible.
