THRONE — occurring EXACTLY ONCE in the entire Hebrew Bible, and disputed even there. ⚠ Lexicographers are divided on whether kes is a contracted spelling of kisse (the ordinary word for throne) or a scribal slip for nes, BANNER — the very word the altar in the same verse's neighborhood was just named for ('Jehovah is my nes,' v15). The shelf splits three ways over the sentence it sits in (v16): some read an oath ('the LORD hath sworn'), some read Amalek's hand raised against Jehovah's throne, some leave it a bare unresolved exclamation. A single rare word, and the one verse it appears in still is not settled. → first discussed at Exod 17:16
