To BOAST, glory in, take pride in — a favourite Pauline verb (roughly 35 of its ~37 New Testament occurrences are his). It is the real subject of 1 Corinthians 1: the factions are the rash, boasting is the disease, and the paragraph about God choosing the low-born ends with its purpose clause — 'so that no flesh may boast before God'. The chapter closes by quoting Jeremiah 9:24 to license the one exception: boast in the Lord.
