katabolē καταβολή katabolē

A THROWING-DOWN, and so a FOUNDING — usually in the phrase 'the foundation of the world' (Matthew 25:34, Ephesians 1:4). ⚠ At Hebrews 11:11 it means the SOWING or depositing of seed, and that sense is what decides the verse's crux: the power received is 'for the katabole of seed', which in Greek usage describes the father's part — the real argument for reading Abraham rather than Sarah as the subject. → first discussed at Hebrews 11:11
