THE PALM of the hand, the SOLE of the foot — the hollow, gripping surface, as against yad, the hand or arm as a whole; also a pan, a spoon, a socket, anything cupped. ⭐ It is the socket of Jacob's thigh that the wrestler touches at Genesis 32:26, the sole of the foot that treads the land and takes it at Deuteronomy 11:24, the foot's breadth Israel may not take from Esau at 2:5, and the sole that found no rest on the flood-water at Genesis 8:9 (all already on these pages). ⚠ Deuteronomy 25:12 names it as what must be cut off from the woman who seizes a man by his private parts — her palm, the part that gripped — and every version on the shelf prints 'hand'.
