TO FINISH, complete — a different root from kala (כָלָא, 'restrain,' already documented at Exodus 36:6, spelled with an aleph rather than this word's heh) that only sounds alike in transliteration. 'Thus WAS FINISHED all the work of the tabernacle' (39:32, vatechel) uses the identical root Genesis uses twice for the end of creation itself: 'the heavens and the earth WERE FINISHED' and 'God FINISHED the work he had done' (Genesis 2:1-2, already on these pages).
