Of EQUAL STANDING, of the same value — isos, 'equal', + timē, 'honour, worth, price': holding rank, privilege or worth equal to another's. ⚠ It occurs only once in the New Testament, at the very opening of 2 Peter (1:1), addressed to those 'who have obtained a faith isotimon with ours' — a faith of EQUAL STANDING with the apostles' own. It was a civic and commercial word: cities granted resident foreigners isotimia, citizen-equal rights, and it measured coins of equal value. The point is levelling: the latecomer's faith is worth exactly as much as the eyewitness apostle's, priced the same, an equal share in the same inheritance.
