EQUAL — the ordinary Greek word for equal shares, equal wages, equal weight, with no theological charge built into it anywhere else it appears. John 5:18 uses it of Jesus and God: calling God 'his own Father' made him, in the Jews' reading, ison heauton poiōn tō theō, 'making himself equal with God.' John states this as the accurate reading of what was said, not as an overreaction he corrects. Every English and Spanish version on this shelf translates it the same plain way.
