An OUTLINE, a pattern, a model sketch — from hypotypoō, 'to sketch under, to draft': the first rough form of a thing, meant to be filled in or copied (built on typos, the impress of a blow — see that entry). ⚠ It occurs only twice in the New Testament, both in the Pastorals: Paul is made a hypotypōsis, a 'pattern', of God's patience for those who will believe (1 Timothy 1:16), and Timothy is told to 'hold the pattern of sound words' he heard from Paul (2 Timothy 1:13).
