A RARE VERB for what is done to executed bodies — hang, impale, expose, dismember have all been defended, and the sense is not recoverable from the word alone. ⭐ It stands in two verses: Numbers 25:4, where God orders it done to the heads of the people 'to Jehovah, facing the sun', and 2 Samuel 21:6, where the Gibeonites ask for seven of Saul's sons to be given up and 'hanged to Jehovah'. ⚠ The second passage is the better lexicon: 2 Samuel 21:9 shows the result — bodies left in the open on a hill until the rains came and a three-year famine broke. Same rare verb, same phrase 'to Jehovah', same logic of a national calamity ended by a public corpse.
