hodos ὁδός hodos

A ROAD, a way — an ordinary word for a physical road, and then for a manner of life. John 14:6 puts the definite article on it, and on the two nouns beside it: THE way and THE truth and THE life. ⚠ Thomas asks about a road he thinks he has to find, and the answer redefines the noun rather than giving directions. In Acts the same word becomes the earliest name for the movement itself — 'the Way' (Acts 9:2, 24:14). → first discussed at John 14:6
