hetil הֵטִיל hetil

TO HURL, fling — a forceful verb, stronger than 'send.' ⚠ It is used three times in Jonah 1 and ties the chapter together: JEHOVAH hurls a great wind onto the sea (1:4), the SAILORS hurl the cargo overboard (1:5), and finally the sailors hurl JONAH into the sea (1:15). The runaway who wanted only to be left alone in the hold becomes, by the same verb, the thing thrown. NWT keeps the force ('hurled'); KJV softens it to 'sent out.' → first discussed at Jonah 1:4
