HOLY, set apart — and in the plural, hagioi, 'the holy ones', which is what Paul calls every member of an ordinary mixed congregation of slaves, freedmen and householders. ⚠ English 'saint' comes through Latin sanctus and now carries freight the Greek has not got: a canonised elite, a category of the exceptional dead. NWT's 'holy ones' is the tighter rendering and this translation follows it.
