An OVERSEER'S POST — the office of one who watches over; from episkopos, 'overseer', which travelled through Latin into Old English and emerged as BISHOP. Peter applies Psalm 109:8 to the vacancy Judas left: 'let another take his episkopē'. KJV says the later word out loud — 'his bishoprick let another take' — a fair rendering of the term and, at the same time, an anachronism, since no such office exists in that room.
