PEACE — and, in Matthew 10, something almost sent by hand: a disciple's spoken peace 'comes upon' a worthy house or, finding none, 'returns' to the one who spoke it (10:13), as if the blessing were a physical thing that cannot simply vanish unclaimed. ⚠ The same chapter turns the word inside out twenty-one verses later — 'I did not come to bring peace, but a sword' (10:34) — and this translation prints both without smoothing the collision: a household's peace can be given and returned like a possession, and the peace of the whole earth is, in the same breath, what Jesus says he did not come to bring. → first discussed at Matt 10:13
