LIKENESS, resemblance — one of the two words (with mar'eh, 'appearance') that carry Ezekiel 1, where between them they occur about twenty times in twenty-eight verses. The hedging is the theology: Ezekiel never says he saw God, only 'the appearance of the LIKENESS of the glory of Jehovah.'
