To BE COWARDLY, be timid — stronger than simple fear. ⚠ The verb occurs ONCE in the New Testament, at John 14:27, in the second half of the sentence that repeats the chapter's opening line: 'do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be cowardly.' Its adjective deilos does turn up elsewhere — of the disciples in the storm (Matthew 8:26, Mark 4:40) and in the list at Revelation 21:8.
