da'at דַּעַת da'at

KNOWLEDGE — from yada, 'to know': not only facts held in the head but knowing by acquaintance (the same verb knows a friend, or a spouse). It is what 'the fear of Jehovah is the beginning of' (1:7), and what fools 'hate' (1:22, 29). Distinct from wisdom (chokhmah, the skill that USES knowledge) and understanding (binah, the discernment that SORTS it). → first discussed at Gen 1:4
