A SIGNET — the engraved seal-ring pressed into wax or clay to stamp a document with a king's authority (the same word for the seals archaeologists dig up as clay bullae). To be God's signet 'on my right hand' (22:24) is to carry delegated royal power itself; to be 'torn off' it is to be un-authorized, decommissioned.
