Two Hebrew craft-terms for two different textile techniques, per the Talmud (Yoma 72b) and later commentators: ma'aseh CHOSHEV ('the work of a designer', 26:1, 31) is woven so the pattern reads identically on both faces of the fabric; ma'aseh ROKEM ('the work of an embroiderer', 26:36) is stitched onto one face only, the reverse left plain. The distinction tracks which tabernacle curtains carry cherubim (choshev-work: the inner lining and the veil) and which do not (rokem-work: the outer screen) — the more expensive, two-sided weave reserved for what lies deepest inside the structure. → first discussed at Exod 26:1
