A WALL — specifically the defensive wall of a city (Jericho's CHOMAH falls flat, Joshua 6:20; Nehemiah rebuilds Jerusalem's). It is the word used of the water at the crossing: 'the waters were a CHOMAH for them on their right and on their left' (Exodus 14:22, 29), which is why every painting shows two standing cliffs of sea. ⚠️ A minority reading takes it here as a metaphor of PROTECTION — a defensive wall on either flank — noting that a wind strong enough to dry a seabed is not obviously one that leaves water in vertical faces.
