COURT, courtyard, enclosure — a hundred cubits by fifty, its entire perimeter a single course of 'fine twined linen' hung on sixty pillars (27:9-18) — cloth, not masonry, the only thing separating the sanctuary's ground from the ordinary camp outside it. The one gate, on the east, is a plainer twenty-cubit 'work of an embroiderer' (v16) — the same one-faced craft as the tent's own outer screen (26:36, already on these pages), reserving the more expensive two-faced weave and its woven cherubim for what stands deeper inside (the veil, 26:31). → first discussed at Exod 27:9
