chafetz חָפֵץ chafetz

To DELIGHT IN, take pleasure in, desire. It carries the hardest sentence in the Hebrew Bible: 'Jehovah was PLEASED to crush him' (Isaiah 53:10) — and then, in the same verse, 'the PLEASURE (chefetz) of Jehovah will prosper in his hand'. One root at both ends, which is why this translation keeps one English word for both where the versions vary them. NWT is the bluntest on the shelf: 'took delight in crushing him'. → first discussed at Isaiah 53:10
