A LITTLE SCROLL — a genuine diminutive of biblion, 'scroll, book', and the word for the object John is handed and told to eat (10:2, 9, 10). At verse 8 alone, the oldest manuscripts drop the diminutive and read plain biblion — the identical bare word already used for the great sealed scroll only the Lamb was worthy to open (Revelation 5:1). Whether that one bare verse means the SAME scroll, now open, or a smaller one merely modeled on it, is a real scholarly disagreement this text never resolves. → first discussed at Rev 10:2
