HAIL — the seventh plague, and in the Bible a weapon rather than weather. Exodus 9 describes it with fire flashing inside it, shattering trees and killing whatever was left in the open. Joshua 10:11 records that in the battle at Beth-horon 'more died from the HAILSTONES than the sons of Israel killed with the sword,' and Job is asked whether he has seen 'the storehouses of the HAIL, which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war' (38:22-23). Hail falls again as the last plague of Revelation 16:21 — the plague cycle of Exodus is the pattern the last book of the Bible reaches for. → first discussed at Exod 9:18
