'Childless / stripped' — the sentence on Coniah, 'write this man ariri' (22:30). Not that he had no children (he fathered seven sons in exile, 1 Chronicles 3:17) — the verse defines its own sense in the next line: childless AS TO THE THRONE, 'for none of his seed will prosper, sitting on the throne of David.' The root sense is 'stripped bare' (Genesis 15:2, Abram 'goes childless'). KJV/NWT both 'childless'; the qualification, not the word, is where the whole puzzle of the messianic line turns. → first discussed at Jer 22:30
