To RESTORE — to set a thing back as it was. Jesus grants the scribes their doctrine with it: 'Elijah does come, and will RESTORE all things' (Matthew 17:11), which is Malachi's promise that the returning Elijah will 'turn the hearts of fathers to their children' (Malachi 3:23-24 Hebrew / 4:5-6 English). ⚠ The verb has a quiet second career: it is what the disciples ask about in Acts 1:6 ('are you at this time RESTORING the kingdom to Israel?'), and its noun apokatastasis is Acts 3:21's 'the restoration of all things' — a phrase later theology has argued over for centuries.
