RESTORATION — a single noun, occurring nowhere else in the New Testament, that has carried more theological weight than its one appearance would suggest. ⚠ Acts 3:21 has Peter preach 'the times of apokatastasis of all things' as what heaven is holding Jesus for until it arrives. KJV alone on the English shelf renders it 'restitution,' an older and more legal-sounding word; ASV, NIV and ESV all use some form of 'restore.' The term was later taken up by Origen and others to argue for the eventual restoration of literally everything, including the damned — a doctrine, apocatastasis, the wider church debated for centuries and never formally adopted.
