To TAKE UP, lift up and receive — the verb Acts uses four times in one chapter for the ascension (1:2, 1:11, 1:22), always in the passive: he was taken up. It is the word the Greek Old Testament uses of ELIJAH, taken up in the whirlwind while Elisha watched and then received a double portion of his spirit (2 Kings 2:9-11), and it is picked up in the hymn fragment of 1 Timothy 3:16, 'taken up in glory'.
