A young woman of marriageable age — Rebekah is called almah at 24:43 in the servant's retelling, though the narrator called her na'arah ('girl,' 24:14) and betulah ('virgin,' 24:16) when she first appeared. That overlap is the crux of the famous Isaiah 7:14 debate ('a almah shall conceive'): almah marks a young woman, YOUNG enough to be presumed unmarried and chaste, without betulah's technical focus on virginity — and here the same Rebekah is all three words at once. The Greek Bible rendered Isaiah's almah as parthenos, 'virgin,' the reading Matthew 1:23 carries. → first discussed at Gen 24:43
