A HOLDING — a permanent, inheritable land-possession, from achaz, 'to grasp, hold fast' (KJV 'possession'). The loaded word of Genesis 23: Abraham seeks an achuzzat-qever, a 'burial holding' — and it is the very term God used for the promised land itself, 'all the land of Canaan for an everlasting HOLDING' (17:8). In his lifetime the everlasting holding comes down to one field with a grave in it. → first discussed at Gen 23:4
