The herald's cry before Joseph's chariot (41:43) — and nobody knows what it means. Three serious proposals: a Hebrew derivation from barakh, 'to kneel,' giving the KJV's and ASV's committed 'BOW THE KNEE'; an Egyptian derivation (ib-r-k, roughly 'attention!', or a court title) giving the NIV's 'MAKE WAY!'; and the Akkadian abarakku, a high household steward. The NWT simply transliterates, and so does this translation — a shout in a foreign court that two thousand years of scholarship has not decoded should look like what it is.
